Increase Biodiversity

Plants take carbon dioxide out of the air. More plant life therefore means slower climate change.

  • Plants thrive when there are lots of pollinators. Bees, for example, are crucial to our survival. If farmers are growing crops, or we’re hoping apple trees produce lots of fruit, it’s often bees which are going from flower to flower pollinating and triggering the fruit to grow. No pollinators, no fruit.

  • Bee Friendly Kenilworth are active in local schools and beyond, trying to encourage us to treasure plant life in order that bees and other pollinators continue to do their vital work!

  • A further advantage is that when the plant life flowers, Kenilworth will bloom too!

Join us by pledging your small step towards Kenilworth being more biodiverse.

Plastic Free Kenilworth

Even though much plastic can be recycled, and Warwick District is leading the way, there is a need to drastically reduce the amount of plastic we buy – in particular, single use plastic.

If we use less plastic, the planet will warm more slowly because factories will burn less oil, coal and gas making it. We will also reduce the dangers from microplastics, which have already made their way into our food chain, potentially affecting our health.

Plastic Free Kenilworth are working hard to help suggest ways in which we can avoid using plastic. Their work has led to Kenilworth being a Plastic Free Town, and many businesses, schools and individuals are already stepping up the plate.

Join us by pledging your small step towards buying less plastic.

Clean Air, Low Carbon Kenilworth

We all value fresh, clean air. Did you know that exhaust fumes from cars and planes, and pollution from our energy usage at home and at work leads to heart and respiratory problems, even in children? We can make a difference to each other’s health!

If we all do our bit, just imagine how many less tonnes of harmful gases would pollute Kenilworth and the wider world’s air! Less energy usage slows climate change – and lowers our bills! But we’ll need everyone to do their bit.

Kenilworth All Together Greener are helping to raise awareness of this issue and they are part of Warwickshire’s Low Carbon Network.

Join us by pledging your small step towards cleaner air and less carbon consumption.

Save Water

We need to reduce the strain on ecosystems and aquatic habitats. This will help enhancing resilience to climate change and drought conditions, lowering water bills and reducing energy costs associated with water heating and encouraging responsible use of limited freshwater resources.

Reduce Our Energy Consumption

We need to decreases greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change. Doing this helps to reserve finite natural resources, such as fossil fuels and minerals, lower utility bills and reduces overall energy expenses, promote sustainable living practices for a healthier planet and reduce reliance on imported energy sources and enhances national security.

Eat Well, Eat Sustainably

Some of the food we eat travels thousands of miles to get to our plates. Transportation causes global warming. Can we buy foods which have been grown locally? Because of the Climate in Britain, many foods are only harvested in certain seasons. Can we be smart about what we eat in which season? Maybe we can grow our own!

Animals give off methane which causes global warming. Also, the more demand there is for meat, particularly beef, the more deforestation occurs in order to develop land for cattle farming. Less trees, more carbon dioxide in the air and more climate change.

Several eateries in Kenilworth are trying hard to source their food with sustainability in mind.

We’re always being told about the health benefits of eating less meat so that’s another incentive for all of us.

Join us by pledging your small step towards eating with a thought for the planet.

Fight Fast Fashion and Over Consumption

We need to share the Earth’s resources. Kenilworth has many charity shops with perfectly good second hand, often nearly new clothes.

Many of us have clothes we hardly wear, and almost every garment has required the burning of oil, gas or coal to make it or to deliver it. Our houses may also harbour all kinds of things we didn’t really need or don’t ever use.

Making choices about what and whether we buy things can lead to us supporting our local charity shops and also slow down global warming!

Join us by pledging one small step towards buying less or buying better.
